Our Hero Akiva Yasinskiy
Akiva (Dima), our Hero, was born in Ukraine, in the city of Gorlovka on June 4, 1988, to his parents Alexander and Galina, and he has an older sister Anna. Akiva lived in Gorlovka, Ukraine until he was 14 years old
On September 4, 2002, Akiva immigrated to Israel as part of the NAALE program. and entered the Migdal Or boarding school in Afula
During his studies he converted to Judaism that he loved so much and was connected to it so powerfully. In the fall of 2006, he enlisted in the IDF and served in Battalion 603 until 2009. During his service, he participated in countless operational activities in the various sectors and fought in Operation Cast Lead. After the service, Akiva continued to a mechanical engineering studies at the Technion, and after a year he transferred his studies to Tel Aviv University
In 2014 Akiva married the love of his life Olga. In 2016, Akiva transferred from Tel Aviv University to Afeka Institute for evening Studies and at the same time got a full-time job as an engineer
As an example of his diligence and dedication during these years, Akiva worked every day from 8 am to 5 pm and at the end of the workday he immediately went to his studies at Afeka College until 10 pm at night
Only at the end of October 2023, about a month after his enlistment in War Order 8, Akiva received his engineering graduation certificate from Afeka Institute. His wife Olga received the certificate in June 2024 after Akiva's death
On the morning of Saturday the 7th of October, Akiva left his home for the recruitment base in the north of the country of the reserve unit he served in, the patrol department of the 8173 Engineering Battalion. Akiva did not wait for an official summons and reported to his unit for any mission that would come
At the beginning of the war, the battalion received defense missions in the north area and at the beginning of November, the patrol department was assigned the task of destroying enemy's tunnels and infrastructure in Gaza
For two months, Akiva and his friends blew up dozens of terrorist tunnels and enemy buildings every day. The team understood the size of the hour and worked around the clock with very few hours of sleep while taking initiative and huge risks. His mission ended at noon on January 8, 2024. In an explosion in which Akiva was killed in the Al Buriej camp in the center of the Gaza Strip
Akiva was a kind, dedicated and attentive person. He always did his best to help anyone who was in need
One example that characterizes his help to others is his commitment to donating blood regularly
Akiva loved to travel a lot with his wife Olga and enjoyed life
Before the war, Akiva and Olga thought and dreamed of having children
On one cursed day on January 8 at 15:24 all plans and
dreams were cut short
And now, it is our duty to commemorate Akiva's memory.
We dream of creating a house-museum that will become a
place of remembrance, inspiration, and strength for everyone
who visit it.
We cannot fulfill this dream without your donations. We turn
to you with a heartfelt request to become part of this important mission – to preserve the memory of the hero who gave his life
so that we could live.
With gratitude and love,
The Yasinsky Family
